The Immunisation Coalition hosted the Primary Care Infectious Diseases meeting in Sydney on 19 October. This hybrid event brought together General Practitioners and Nurses focused on immunisation and vaccination against infectious diseases, offering both in-person and virtual participation. This event saw almost 300 participants attending with a mix of GPs, Physicians, Academics, Nurse Immunisers and Pharmacists.
The program featured a mix of short presentations, keynote talks, engaging debates, workshops, and panel discussions. Topics included addressing vaccine hesitancy, understanding and managing long COVID-19, strategies to reduce vaccination errors, and future seasonal respiratory vaccination rates, including Influenza and RSV. Attendees also explored the epidemiology and management of Q fever, debated the role of monoclonal antibodies in the NIP, and discussed software tools for identifying and recalling under-vaccinated patients. Equity in vaccine access was also explored, highlighting those who might be missing out and potential solutions.
We extend our gratitude to the speakers and attendees for their valuable contributions, as well as to Dr. Rodney Pearce AM, Chairman of the Immunisation Coalition, for skillfully chairing the event. We would also extend our thanks to the IC GP Education Committee for supporting the development of the program and Inovating for running the meeting.
With the successful conclusion of the 2nd Primary Care Infectious Diseases Meeting, we look forward to bringing it to Brisbane next year.
