About

Mission

The Immunisation Coalition Art Prize aims to highlight and promote you as a contemporary artist and support our mission to raise awareness about immunisation against vaccine preventable diseases in a scientifically informed way. The Immunisation Coalition is an Australian, not-for-profit organisation registered with the ACNC. We advocate for the protection of all Australians against infectious diseases through immunisation. We invite you to help us communicate the need for accurate information on these issues with your art prize submissions. Say yes to share your talent, an important health message, and win some awesome prizes!

The Selection Panel will be co-chaired by Nobel Prize winning immunologist, Laureate Professor Peter Doherty AC and internationally renowned artist and human rights activist William Kelly OAM.

Painting of cells by Brooke Daljac

The Cure

2021 Merit Award Winner

By Brooke Daljac, Western Australia

“This art piece is based on vaccinations. As you can see, there is a needle squirting a vaccine into the virus and slowly killing it. This shows us how aware we are of viruses and diseases and how quickly we need to react to them before they become catastrophic. I have used bright colours to depict the virus so that it can easily be seen when it is dead and that vaccines do work.”

Artwork - head and shoulders of woman with air particlesThe Air That I Breathe

2021 Merit Award Winner

by Louisa Antico, New South Wales

“Vaccines are about saving lives, so I didn’t think twice before entering the Immunisation Coalition Art Prize 2021.

We are living in a more complicated and fast-changing world with interconnected problems and challenges. Immunisation not only protects individuals, but also others in the community. Climate Change, population growth, urbanization and human migration make the spread of pathogens easier than ever before. Viruses are mutating all the time, and human activity is increasingly bringing us in contact with them.

I hope that the message I was trying to convey through my artwork “The Air That I Breathe” helps the community to realize that all living things are interconnected and that no one is safe unless everyone is safe.”

Artwork - Colourful faces with masksRemember the Mask

2021 Merit Award Winner

By Janet Fitzpatrick, Victoria

“Vaccination has been used for many years. My mother – a doctor who was in London at the time – wrote a letter to her sister in Victoria, detailing how in England (about 1930) whooping cough was being treated with injections aka vaccinations, especially among young children as they displayed fewer symptoms and experienced a shorter illness once vaccinated.

In stark contrast to today’s vaccination regime, it was recommended they have 4 injections at 4-7 day intervals!!”
